Tea tree belongs to family myrtaceae, related to myrtle. The species are shrubs & trees, leaves are evergreen, flowers are produced in dense clusters along the systems. The fruit is a small capsule containing numerous seeds. The best accepted common name for melaleuca is melaleuca but larger species are called TEA TREE. These are popular garden plants, its leaves have been used for medicinal puposes.

EXTRACTION
Tea tree oil is obtained from leaves of melaluca alternifolia by steam distillation.

PROPERTIES
It has a fresh carbonaceous odor& color ranges from pale yellow to colorless & clear.

COMPONENTS
The main chemical components of tea tree oil (also referred to as tri-tree oil) are a-pinene, b-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, a-phellandrene, a-terpinene, limonene, 1,8-cineole, y-terpinene, p-cymene, terpinolene, linalool, terpinen-4-ol and a-torpid.

BLENDING
It blends well with Lavender, Clary sage, Rosemary, Pine, Geranium, Marjoram & Clove, etc.
